Day Two: Rebirth (a man does hot Pilates)

It is a simple fact of my life: there is a pre hot Pilates me and a post hot Pilates me. I arrived to the Tahoe City Mountain Lotus Yoga Studio, thinking I had signed up for a Vinyasa Yoga class. Turns out, that Yoga class was in the Truckee location, and this studio was running a hot Pilates session. I was told to grab two blocks, two weights, and a glider. One hour later I watched my ego dissolve in the mirror, just a puddle of sweat and tears. Me, and seven women named Barbara were led through the circles of Hell by our instructor/warrior leader Ingrid. Her direct commands my only guiding light: “Pulse!”… “Hold!”… “Stay tight!”. That class taught me what it really means to be a man, which is to just try your best to keep up with all the women. And when you fall, which is inevitable, they will even have the grace to casually pick you up with their pinky and set you back on track. Ingrid told me after class, “Wasn’t it a happy accident that you got to join us today?”. There are no accidents though, this much I know for sure. It’s nice knowing I will never do anything as hard as that was ever again.

P.s. to clear up some confusion from the last post (I said that the Granite Chief was my favorite part of the mountain and then said Red Dog Ridge was my favorite part of the mountain), they are both my favorite 😉

A very essential lake dip to cleanse post pilates
